Today's Gospel: Matthew 1:18-25

There are many dreams I have had that I wish would have become a reality, and there are many that I am grateful never surfaced while I was awake. I’m not an expert in dreams, but I would guess that 60 percent of what we dream comes from desires of the heart, and the rest is a movie playing in our minds. What about Joseph’s dream in this passage and the angel appearing to him, telling him how drastically his life was about to change? We don’t know if that was a deep desire of his heart or completely blindsided him.

In any case, Joseph’s reaction stands out to me the most. This passage does not indicate any pushback or reluctance on his part. Joseph takes the news and runs with it. The new situation for Joseph was not life-ending, but it was life-changing; he was destined to raise the Son of Man!

Joseph’s big moment was in giving God his trust and surrendering his will to God’s will. Consider if Joseph had pushed back and missed that opportunity. As simple as they sound, dreams can be a glimpse into what God sees for us in some shape or form. Don’t dismiss them; take them to prayer and tell God how you feel about it.

Ponder:

What opportunities have I missed by pushing back on God’s plan for my life?

Pray:

Heavenly Father, I ask for the grace to be open to Your leading in my life. Please open my eyes to the path You have laid out and guide me as I journey according to Your will.
