Today's Gospel: John 1:1-18

Rejoice with me! Today is born our Savior, Christ the Lord!

In one of the most poetic pieces in the New Testament, John offers us a beautiful reflection on Jesus, the Word of God. Humanity had lost its way - we had wandered in darkness, searching for God even when we didn’t know it was Him that we were looking for. But God is with us, and He has come to light the way. Jesus is the Word of God, the light of the human race. No darkness can overcome Him, and He will always prevail over evil and sin.

God was not content just to send His Word to humanity. He had spoken through prophets for centuries, slowly revealing Himself. God came to us; He became flesh. He lowered Himself to be close to us and to show us His love.

God is love incarnate, and Jesus is the face of that love. He came so we could better understand Him. He came so that we would know for sure that God truly understands what it means to go through this life in this imperfect and sometimes painful place.

God loves you. God came for you.

Ponder:

Where do you see the light of God in your own life?

Pray:

Lord, help me to see Your light and love in my life, and help me to love the way You love.
