I used a heart shaped pan.  I used boxed cake mix (I used strawberry cake mix because of the color, but it didn't taste as good as I thought it would).  I would probably use vanilla next time.  I made buttercream frosting and tinted the frosting with food coloring.  I used little ziplock baggies for the writing and decorations and cut the tips off. [![](https://www.catholicmom.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/immaculate-heart-cake-300x225.jpg?width=300&height=225&name=immaculate-heart-cake-300x225.jpg "immaculate-heart-cake")](https://www.catholicmom.com/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/immaculate-heart-cake.jpg) I didn't buy anything special as far as cake decorating supplies.  I just used what I had here at home! I was so pleased with the results.  And everyone loved them!  Thanks for all you do to share the faith with all of us Catholic moms.
