Today's Gospel: John 21:15-1
Sheep are not very smart animals. They are very good at following and they will follow even if the leader is headed toward disaster. This Gospel makes me so grateful for Peter and the long line of God’s chosen Shepherds because I can be very “sheep like” from time to time. Satan loves it when culture sweeps us away in the wrong direction like sheep without a shepherd. Peter and his successors acting as Christ on earth provide the loving guidance we need.
Each day we are blessed with gives us the chance to lovingly follow Jesus. He loves us and forgives us even when we wander off His path. He asked Peter to profess his love for Him three times, once for each of the three times he denied knowing Jesus that dreadful night. That same loving compassion and forgiveness is given freely to all of us who, like Peter, promise our love to Him in return.
Ponder:
What are the areas of my life where I tend to wander off like a lost sheep?
Pray:
Jesus my Good Shepherd, please keep me in your watchful care. Bless Pope Francis and all Bishops and Priests as they shepherd and protect God’s flock.
