Today's Gospel: Matthew 13:47-53

Optional Memorial of Saint Peter Chrysologus, Bishop and Doctor of the Church

The Kingdom of Heaven is for all of us, every one of us! This is the good news, but the other news, not bad or good, is that we must be aware of the existence of this kingdom. The reality of the Kingdom of Heaven will come to us someday, and we must be ready. Back in Jesus’ day, people didn’t read books, newspapers, or e-magazines online; they had to depend upon the few scribes that did write and share the word of scriptures during time in church. We are being shown what judgment day will look like, given a chance to reconsider our present status, and know that we all have a chance to be with our heavenly Father for eternity. How, you ask? Jesus’ next comment was about the scribes that were taught about the Kingdom of God, writing the information down on paper, or papyrus, and sharing this information with the community during the times of the readings in church. The scribe’s gift of the written word is the good stuff that provides salvation to all who will listen to the words he writes. Today, we don’t have to wait for church; we can sit right down now and dig into the Word at our leisure. The Kingdom of God is at hand, in our hands, and at our fingertips. We can learn about our Heavenly Father, and nurture a close relationship with Him and our Lord, today, right now.

Ponder:

How do you see your judgment day? Are you a good fish or an evil fish? No matter what your answer, you have a chance to improve your chances of obtaining entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. Do you read the written word daily?

Pray:

Dear Lord, thank you for the amazing way you taught your disciples, and us, and making us think about what you are saying and forcing us to see that the Father’s way is far better than our way. Help us to always be with your word on a daily basis, learning and loving the lessons of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
