Today's Reflection:

In today's reflection, Fr. Gaitley breaks down for us the three parts of St. Maximilian Kolbe's prayer of consecration. I like this "piece by piece" didactic approach. It helps me to look closely at the individual phrases and their deeper meaning so that I don't fall into the trap of wrote recitation.

I'm ashamed to admit that this happens to me sometimes... that in my rush to "say my prayers", I say them without truly feeling them.

"Now, and at the hour of our death..." especially when recited fifty times in a row, runs the risk of becoming yet another item crossed off of my to do list, instead of a plea for my Mother to remember me and my loved ones to her Son.

"Thy will be done..." sometimes on those busiest days isn't really a total giving over of my life and will to God. It's lip service.

And I don't want my consecration prayer to be that way. I want the fullness of heart and totality of self-giving the St. Louis and St. Maximilian intended when they penned their consecration prayers. That's why today's study of these words and the days yet to come on this Retreat are so crucial. I want to give all of me, fully informed, full committed, fully alive.

To Ponder:

What value have you found today in the studying of St. Maximilian's form of the prayer of consecration? How will this make a difference as you pray your way through what remains of this retreat?

Let Us Pray:

St. Maximilian Kolbe, founder of the Militia Immaculata, grasp my hand and lead me into deeper relationship with our Blessed Mother Mary, and with her son Jesus Christ.
