Today's Reflection:

I don't know about your house, but in my house the children often come to me, their mother, asking me to talk to their father. They may want something or to be able to go somewhere, and they want me to plea their cause on their behalf, figuring I know better how to appeal to their dad.

If this is true in an earthly family, how much more so in our Heavenly Family. At the wedding feast at Cana, Jesus revealed to us the sway His Mother has over Him.

"Because God is generous...He wants Mary... to share in his one mediation" (90). Because Mother is our Mother, she will present our needs and petitions to God in a maternal way.  Because she is our Mother, we can ask anything of her with the confidence that she will take our concerns to the throne of her Son.  Because she is our Mother, she wants what is best for us.

We, in turn, ought to honor her as Mother, like Jesus Himself did. And we must remember her last words to us in Scripture: "Do what He tells you" (John 2:5).

To Ponder:

What can I ask my Mother for today: an increase of patience, a greater outpouring of love, a wiser use of time, a heart willing to forgive? What can I ask my Mother for today?

Let Us Pray:

Father God, thank you for generously giving us a Heavenly Mother who, with love and compassion, takes our needs and concerns before the throne of Your Son. Jesus, thank you for sharing Your role as mediator with your Mother so that Her love for us and desire for our salvation may be fruitful. Mary, my Mother, intercede for me, that where you are I, your child, may one day be. Amen.
