Crowdfunding is a method of raising funds online through the collective effort of friends, family, anonymous supporters, and individual investors. We’ve all heard the big names of crowdfunding sites such as GoFundMe, KickStarter, Indiegogo, and Razoo. When we think of these sites, we associate them with heartwarming campaigns - families and friends working to raise money for cancer patients, medical expenses, donations to nonprofits, mission trips, and helping others in need. These are all causes that pro-lifers can wholeheartedly support, keeping in line with the idea that all life, beginning at conception, has dignity, and that its sanctity must be upheld and supported.

However, as crowdfunding has gained popularity, more users are creating campaigns for pro-choice groups - women seeking abortion money, patients wanting funding for physician-assisted suicide, and funds for Planned Parenthood. A recent GoFundMe campaign called “Stop Bailey from Breeding,” used the crowdfunding site to raise money for an abortion for a girl named Bailey. The campaign was shut down by GoFundMe eventually, but not before a sizeable amount of money was raised and given to Bailey. It is saddening to see that in Bailey’s time of despair and dire need, people were willing to give her money to end her child’s life instead of showing her love and support, or reaching out in effort to help her choose life.

Several campaigns on GoFundMe, YouCaring, Crowdrise, and Razoo do not promote life affirming values. Campaigns ask for Planned Parenthood support, for abortion procedure costs, to open an abortion clinic, for a pro-choice film about an abortion provider, for funding physician assisted suicide, and to advertise abortion care. A simple search on “abortion” on Razoo yields 1000 plus results.

While these campaigns endure on the crowdfunding sites, other efforts to raise money in alignment with pro-life values are shut down. GoFundMe refused to host a campaign raising money for Ellinor Grimark, a nurse in Sweden denied employment because she refused to assist in abortions. The Grimmark family campaign has found a home in WonderWe, and the family has worked with WonderWe to promote pro-life issues and freedom of conscience. In a recent campaign for a pro-life movie on abortionist Kermit Gonsell, an independent film company started a fundraiser with Kickstarter. However, shortly after it launched Kickstarter censored the page because of the “controversial subject matter.” This is the same crowdfunding page that is currently hosting a campaign for a pro-choice film called “The Provider,” about an abortionist trying to keep abortion legal in Texas. How does that not also fall under the banner of “controversial subject matter”? A crisis pregnancy center in North Carolina set up an account on YouCaring to raise funds for a new mobile ultrasound unit. However, the campaign was removed shortly after, because the site believed that the cause could potentially be “divisive.”

These commonly known crowdfunding sites are not fully supportive of pro-life initiatives. Shouldn’t crowdfunding help promote the sanctity of life? Instead of raising money for a woman to terminate a pregnancy, let’s create campaigns to raise money for the child’s daycare, diapers, adoption fees, and mother’s prenatal medical expenses. Let’s raise the money that the women in crisis pregnancies need to relieve the financial stress that is leading them to choose abortion.

WonderWe is the solution for pro-life crowdfunding. It has all of the features of the big name sites, but with something more added in both technology and culture. WonderWe has a very deliberate cultural difference. It embraces traditional values – such as pro-life causes and freedom of religion causes – that other sites sometimes reject, such as in the case of the Grimmark family. WonderWe is a safe site to create campaigns that promote the culture of life. Campaign organizers never have to worry about their pro-life campaign being removed or having to be side-by-side with a campaign promoting abortion or physician-assisted suicide. WonderWe truly embraces the meaning of human dignity and respect for life from conception until natural death. Perhaps with using WonderWe, a true difference can be made in our society, leading to a culture of life.

WonderWe is the total package in the crowdfunding world to raise funds for individuals, charities, schools, and churches. In addition to the campaign and donation features that are common on all sites, WonderWe has added a peer-to-peer feature, a video share feature, a zero-fee pricing model and an organization portal. This combination of technology and life affirming values is something that WonderWe hopes will be the new way to promote the sanctity of life.
