Today's Gospel: Luke 9, 28B-36 - Feast of the Transfiguration

Every time I hear or read this Gospel I think of a retreat. Yes, a retreat going away with people of faith, people that want to experience and learn more about our faith. I picture us making our way up a mountain; on this mountain we learn more about what it means to walk the walk, ways to be more like Christ, ways to pray and not be embarrassed or ashamed to accept who we are NOW in our faith journey.

While on the mountain I am educated and my eyes, mind, and heart begin to open. I feel like Jesus probably felt; “while he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white” LK 9:29. As the hours tick by I am being filled with the love of God. What can be better than that?

The time on the mountain is coming to a close and now it is time to head home and try to live out what has been learned and felt. As I return to my day-to-day activities I feel different. I feel as though I have been awakened. I see things differently; I am no longer asleep like Peter, James and John were while they followed Jesus up the mountain to pray. I have been awakened and have heard what God said, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him”. I am being told to be Christ-like, and carry the glow that Jesus received on the mountain with them always.

This was my experience. I went up to the mountain to live a retreat and I have not been the same since. The transformation I experienced was noticeable to those around me and I could feel the change too.

Dear Lord, please open the hearts of those we love so that they may also see you in your full glory. Amen.
