Today's Gospel: John 11:45-56

“Mooooommmmmmm!”

It’s a way of saying my name that can make my toes curl and my ears turn inward.

It often involves two children of disputing viewpoints. Someone’s touching someone else…or they’re not sharing…or any number of other offenses.

When I read today’s Gospel, I can’t help but picture the Pharisees, not as distinguished scholars and overly pious disciples of God, but rather as small children fighting over the last chocolate chip cookie or the best spot on the couch.

All of us have that 6-year-old self buried inside, the small voice that doesn’t see any! other! way! and wants things resolved right! this! minute!

And I’m reminded, once again, that there’s more than a little Pharisee in me. Guess it’s probably a blessing I have those small humans to keep me humble, huh?

Ponder:

How are you pushing back against God’s will for you? What small step can you take today toward him?

Pray:

Lord, guide me and let me hear your voice today and every day. Amen.
