This past weekend, it rained. On Sunday when we made it out of the house, we discovered we had three feet of weed whacking to do just to return to ordinary levels of outside greenery. Admittedly, I felt surprised by how much everything grew in the few days of not watching.

The same feeling occurred when my youngest son celebrated his tenth birthday. We only have one under ten now, one almost-eight-year-old. Where did the time go? I see three feet worth of growth I didn’t notice yesterday, and wonder where and when I missed it.

We celebrated with Five Guys Burgers and Fries, cake, and dinosaurs. Paul loved it. He gave this sly joyful grin. It was the smile of an older child. The boy is still there, but I can see hints of the older one he’s already becoming. My small success for this week wasn’t so small. A book proposal I made has been accepted. On Saturday I helped with the panel for Catholic Writers Conference Online discussing freelancing. (I’ll consider it an ironic lesson in humility that I haven’t had a sold piece in over a week despite submitting on a constant basis). Also, I made it to Adoration and remembered again why I love it so. It brings me out of wherever it is I shouldn’t be, by making me practice having a quieter heart and mind.

Hope you had a week filled with small successes, and that you’re as delighted by the growth of those you love as I am.

Happy Small Success Thursday!

What small successes are you celebrating this week?
