Charlene Rack recommends a new Lenten resource for families by Catholic Mom contributor Claire McGarry.
Lent is the perfect time to lure your little ones into the vast richness of our Catholic faith. The season of Lent appeals to the desire that children naturally have for great stories of heroism, love, and justice, and Abundant Mercy: Family Devotions and Activities for Lent will help you feed that need with stories devoted to growing in faith.
A book of set up by way of daily Lenten devotions, it is filled with shared experiences that kids can relate to (and, as an empty-nester, reading them all by myself for this review, I enjoyed them, too!). Reading them daily with your children will offer great encouragement, while contributing to a holy and fruitful Lent for the entire family. Each day offers a unique story, which focuses on growing in faith and relating with others, while practicing how to receive and extend God’s mercy.
With these kid-appropriate reflections, your children will likely be inspired to share their own experiences with you, too, surprising you with their “out-of-the-mouths-of-babes” wisdom (a quote taken from Bible, by the way, in case you didn’t know! Psalm 8:2.) You will enrich your family relationships as well as your Lenten experience with these daily gatherings, and find yourselves drawn deeper into the healing waters of the great gift of this penitential season. (And hopefully begin a new, enriching Lenten tradition for your family!)
Bless your entire family with a faith that burrows deep into their hearts, using this wonderful guide by Claire McGarry.
