Taryn DeLong reviews the new YouTube show Guillermo & Will from Family Theater Productions.
We live in a part of the country that has a lot of Spanish-speaking people, especially in our Catholic parishes. In fact, most parish job postings you see in our diocese list “bilingual in English and Spanish” as a job requirement or preference. That, along with the many benefits of learning a second language, is why I want my daughters to learn Spanish.
My Spanish is quite rusty, and I’m definitely not fluent, though I’m brushing up on my skills as much as I can. After all, homeschooling means that I’m their Spanish teacher, at least until the girls are old enough that online classes might be beneficial. I’m looking for help anywhere I can get it, from the Disney princess books my older daughter received for Christmas to a new TV show.
But … Worms?
I have to admit I was skeptical at first: A bilingual Christian children’s show about worms? On the other hand, I didn’t grow up watching Veggie Tales, but my husband loved it. If a show about vegetables can resonate with children, why not a show about worms?
And, in fact, my four-year-old loved Guillermo & Will. Recommended for ages two to five, it’s a new show from Minno Kids. Guillermo speaks Spanish, and Will speaks English. Their dialogue is repetitive, so English-speaking kids can learn new Spanish phrases (and vice versa). It’s also faith-based, so they learn Christian values as well.
The colorful worms were strangely endearing. I think it was the puppets’ bounciness — their long, round bodies squiggle and hop. My daughter thought they were fun, and so did I.
A Family Theater Production
Guillermo & Will is produced by Minno, a Christian streaming service for children, and Family Theater Productions (a sister organization to CatholicMom.com). It was created by Emmy-nominated puppeteer Donna Kimball of Fraggle Rock.
Three episodes of Guillermo & Will are currently available on Minno’s Spanish YouTube channel: “Car/Carro,” “Slide/Tobogán,” and “Colors/Colores.” Minno subscribers can also watch the first full season on that platform. A free activity pack with mazes, matching games, brain teasers, vocabulary, and coloring and tracing pages is also available for download, even if you’re not a Minno subscriber.

If you’re looking for a TV show with brief episodes that will expose your children to a second language and Biblical values, Guillermo & Will is it!
