Anne DeSantis discusses ways we can improve the health of our mind, soul, body, and relationships.
American culture is constantly presenting the how-tos of becoming a better version of ourselves. This concept of improvement has its pluses and minuses in relation to the overall picture of life. One of the most positive suggestions is becoming healthier. This encompasses the physical, mental, relational, and spiritual aspects of life. Below are some ideas to help us improve in each of these areas.
Improving our physical health
Our physical health, for various reasons, is one of the most important facets of overall health. Without good health, life may not be quite as optimal. One prime avenue in gaining better health is in recognizing where changes may need to occur. Is it eating a more balanced and nutritious diet? Is exercise the area you need to improve? Is it in getting better sleep? The list goes on.
Once you know the areas you need to concentrate on, plan to do better. Research, and then find the right help to improve. This process may take time. In placing your physical health at the top of the list, you are bound to experience improved health in the future.
Making strides toward better mental health
Mental health is another area of improvement. The brain is one of the most vital and integral organs in the body. Mental health encompasses the health of the brain, thoughts, emotions, and more. Taking good care of one’s mental and emotional health is a primary avenue in living more healthily. Staying positive, creating healthy boundaries, and seeking professional help when needed are ways to become mentally healthy.
Healing our relationships
Our relationships are where we find and experience love, fulfillment, support, and community. Better relationships make life more interesting, joyful, and satisfying. We all go through challenges in life. Some relationships are more difficult than others. The most monumental relationship of all is our relationship with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Through prayer and discernment, the Lord will guide you to develop a closer friendship with Him and others. Seek professional help such as counseling if you are having difficulty with any close personal relationship, such as a spouse or loved one.
Developing a healthy spirituality
Healthy spiritually is principal in developing better health and wellness. Our relationship with the Almighty guides our overall health and life. God’s desire is that we experience wholeness. By committing ourselves to prayer, the sacramental life of the Church, we can find healing. In giving ourselves to others through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, we are able to become healthy in body, mind, and spirit. Through our relationship with the Lord and his Church, we can find true happiness. The walk with Jesus is a daily one, and in taking each day one at a time, we can become more deeply rooted in faith.
These simple ways can enable you to find holistic healing which includes the mind, soul, and body through the Holy Spirit. With full awareness of the gifts God has bestowed on his children, we can find health and happiness. This is something to strive for in prayer each day in the joy of the Lord.
