Is God Bigger Than a Dragon?
By Maria and David Henrie; illustrated by Adam Gustavson
Published by Ascension Press

Anyone who has kids knows that small children love to ask questions and my son is no stranger to asking questions. From “Can I have a snack?” to “Why are you doing that?” and everything in between, we love a curious thinker!
In their new book, expected to release on November 10, 2026, Maria and David Henrie jump right into questions about God and how big He is in Is God Bigger than a Dragon? The story follows a young boy asking his dad about God with questions that range from tangible visuals like “Is God bigger than a tree?” to more abstract ideas such as “Is God bigger than my fears?” Not surprisingly, the dad always emphatically answers, “Yes!”
Biblical Truths Explored
One of the things that stood out immediately while reading this to my own children was the Bible verses on the bottom of each page. With every question posed, the dad answers his son in the book with Biblical truths founded in Scripture. Every answer given points back to those different verses that help us to know and love the Lord more.
Each page starts with a posed question followed by an answer in rhyme. Much like children’s songs, this creates a pleasant rhythm that is easy to follow for children. As the book progressed, I started asking my son if he thought God was bigger than each of the things proposed. By the end, he himself, just like the dad in the book, was excitedly answering, “Yes!” to each question.

At the back of the book, there is a page also about a free Bible study that will be available to go along with the book. This was a special touch that takes this book from just a children’s book to a faith experience and opportunity to dive deeper into God’s word. A true testament to the authors’ faith as they point back to God’s Word in their book. I can’t wait to explore this resource more with my own children!
Classic Children’s Book Elements
Beyond the beautiful faith elements of this book, the illustrations and rhyming cadence are also aspects that I think will make this book a classic in our home. I personally always love a book that rhymes and I have noticed that my children do as well! Our daughter loves music, so the rhyming elements seemed to really draw her into the book, in much the same way that music appeals to her, even though she is not old enough to engage with it in the same way as her older brother. She sat enthralled as we turned each page to hear and see through the illustrations what would come next.

The beautiful illustrations add another layer of charm to an already wonderful story. In a world of books with increasingly more and more AI generated images, it was refreshing to look through the book and take note of the illustrator’s care to detail. Adam Gustavson (illustrator) brings the words to life on the pages to help convey the messaging of the authors. The illustrations playfully showcase just how big things like a fire-breathing dragon could be and what the idea of fear might look like to a child.
A Book Worth Gifting
With the expected release date of November 10th of this year, this is setting up to be the perfect release for late fall birthdays or a Christmas gift for any child. I hope your children and family love this book as much as we do and we can’t wait to see what comes next from Maria and David Henrie! May God bless them as they seek to share God’s love with their own children and others around the world.
