Salted carmel, nutty nougat, peanut butter? Lilia excitingly opens new bites of faith during a recent women’s retreat.

Simply Sweet

She began describing the sweet personality of her child—guiding us through a journey of prayer exploration and I couldn’t help but picture my twin girls. In that moment, my mind flashed to my darlings who love to snuggle, and I was instantly transported to warm hugs and a blanket of love.

This is prayer—an exchange of love that is being given and received. The guest speaker shared that even though her daughter lovingly fluctuates from episodes of tantrums to hugs and “I love you, Mom”—that is prayer itself! The fact that her child knows beyond a doubt that her mother will love her no matter how she acts, is a complete trust in her love.

A New Bite

I was energized during the retreat. Uncovering new facets of our faith had me feeling like I was opening a box of chocolates—each piece offering a new flavor.

I still couldn’t picture what receiving love from God would look like for me—so once again I went into imagination mode. Holding my daughters’ hands and kissing their cheeks is pure bliss. And when our speaker said, “A mother singing a lullaby to her child is a prayer”—I made the connection. I wanted more nuggets of wisdom like this and all day it continued.

We were provided an insightful Spiritual Gifts Assessment that allowed us to unlock our unique gifts. We were given time to worship through music. We had the opportunity to participate in adoration and confession. Each session came with new discoveries about our faith, and I couldn’t help but enjoy each bite.

Sharing the Treats

Another speaker shared how the book, “You are Special” by Max Lucado was one of her go-to reads for her children. She shared an overview of the story and how it underscored the importance to spend time with our “maker.” I immediately added the book to my mobile’s shopping cart, eager to read the book to my girls.

I departed the Saturday retreat excited to share my box of chocolates—all the delicious tidbits I had uncovered. The many treasures of our faith are meant to be shared. How can I keep from singing?

To all the women who say “Yes” to managing or participating in women’s retreats—thank you! The joy you share with other women multiplies—it’s the treat that keeps on giving.

Shout joyfully to the LORD, all you lands; serve the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful song. (Psalm 100:1-2)
