The coloring book based on a series of children's books inspired Amanda Lauer to read the stories with her grandchildren.

Loupio Coloring Book

The Adventures of Loupio, a five-part children’s books series by Jean-François Kieffer, has been translated from French to English, and now has a companion coloring book, which contains nearly 200 illustrations of animal, knights, and castles from the series.

Loupio Coloring Book

The book series follows an adventurous young troubadour named Loupio in the days of knights and castles. Orphaned and on his own in 13th-century Italy, plucky Loupio meets Brother Francis of Assisi and his friend Brother Wolf and so begins a new life of joyfully trying to do good, while still getting by in a dangerous world. The comic-book style presents to young readers the exciting challenges of growing up in the Middle Ages, which often look very like the challenges of growing up in any age. The series is not only intended to entertain young readers, but, like Loupio, sow the seeds of faith, hope, and charity into their hearts too.

What's in this book?

A brief biography of Saint Francis of Assisi appears on the first page of the coloring book, which is the ideal introduction to the pictures that follow. Loupio Coloring Book is geared toward children ages 5 and up, but to be honest, the charming illustrations of Loupio, his wolf friend, and their adventures are fun (and relaxing) for adults to color as well. Our grandchildren, ages 4, 6, and 8, colored a few of their favorite animals (dogs and cats) before I got my chance at the book. The thick paper makes it the ideal coloring surface for my Stabilo 68 fiber-tip pens/markers. As I colored my page, I was thrown back in time to coloring as a child, lost in concentration as I created my masterpiece.

After completing my picture and paging through the entire coloring book, I’m inspired to read the series with our grandchildren. I appreciated not only the artwork, but the message and the lessons the books offer.
