Where Is Your Root Planted? (Onde Sua Raiz Está Plantada?)

The function of the root in a plant is to anchor it in the soil and absorb water and other nutrients. The root is usually hidden underground and the larger the tree, the deeper its root.  

Human beings also cultivate their roots, not in a biological way like plants, but in spiritual, emotional and intellectual ways. We too need our roots in order to establish ourselves in life and to be able to face the different difficulties that life brings us. So the question is: where is your root planted? Where is the foundation of your life, the place from which you draw the nutrients to sustain your spirit and produce fruit? 

The first place we start to grow our roots is within our family. The love and care we receive during our childhood years stimulates the growth and strengthening of our spiritual and emotional life. If we have experienced any kind of trauma or neglect in these early years of our life, our roots are already damaged. But it's always possible to replant them in a place where they can grow and help us bear fruit. 

In our teenage years, when we begin to reflect on who we are and what we want to be, we become disoriented and run the risk of putting down roots in stony soil, that of the pursuit of pleasure and immediate satisfaction. Those who have roots in this kind of soil can't stand the slightest adversity: the strong sun can burn them, and a stronger wind can rip them up.  

The only soil where we are truly safe and from which we can extract the nutrients we need for a healthy and fruitful emotional and spiritual life, is God's love. Knowing that we are infinitely loved, that we have been wanted, that we have a mission to fulfill, that we must bear fruit of love, justice, peace and mercy. All this becomes true when our roots are fixed in the Father's infinite love. 

But how do we transplant our roots into this fruitful soil? The first step is the will, the desire to be rooted in God. Then we need to rid ourselves of all grave sin, through the sacrament of Reconciliation. Struggle to remain in a state of grace, but if we fall, get up and run into the merciful arms of the Father who is waiting for us in the confessional. Strengthen this desire to be with the Father through the Eucharist, as often as we can. The more we receive Jesus who is truly present in the Holy Eucharist, the more we will be rooted in the Father's love. 

And finally, prayer: the direct contact of our heart with the heart of the Father. To pray is to talk to God, just as we talk to those we love, with simplicity, intimacy, reverence, and deep gratitude. God is constantly trying to get in touch with us, through things, nature, people and the daily events of our lives. If we stop to pay attention, we can perceive these signs and respond to this call of love with our prayer.  

Let's ask our guardian angel, the creature who loves us most in this world with a totally unconditional love that only wants our salvation, to help us deepen our roots in the Father's love, so that we grow strong and bear abundant fruit.

Onde Sua Raiz Está Plantada?

A função da raiz numa planta é fixá-la no solo e absorver água e outros nutrientes, sendo essencial para a vida da planta. A raiz fica normalmente escondida embaixo da terra e quanto maior é a árvore, mais profunda está sua raiz.  

O ser humano também cultiva sua raiz, não de forma biológica como as plantas, mas de forma espiritual, emocional, intelectual. Nós também precisamos de nossas raízes para nos estabelecermos na vida e nos abastecermos para enfrentarmos as diferentes dificuldades que a vida nos traz. Então a questão é: onde a sua raiz está plantada? Onde está o alicerce da sua vida, o local de onde você retira os nutrientes para sustentar seu espírito e produzir fruto? 

O primeiro local onde começamos a crescer nossas raízes é no seio de nossa família. O amor e o cuidado que recebemos durante os anos de infância estimula o crescimento e o fortalecimento de nossa vida espiritual e emocional. Se tivemos algum tipo de trauma ou negligência nesses primeiros anos de nossa vida, nossas raízes já ficam prejudicadas. Mas sempre é possível replantá-las num lugar onde possam crescer e nos ajudar a dar fruto. 

Nos anos da adolescência, onde começamos a refletir sobre quem somos e o que queremos ser, ficamos desorientados e corremos o risco de fixarmos nossas raízes em solo pedregoso, aquele da busca do prazer e da satisfação imediata. Quem tem raiz em solo desse tipo, não suporta a menor adversidade: o sol forte pode queimar e um vento mais forte pode arrancar.  

O único solo onde estaremos verdadeiramente seguros e de onde podemos extrair os nutrientes necessários para termos uma vida emocional e espiritual saudável e fecunda é o amor de Deus. Saber que somos infinitamente amados, que fomos desejados, que temos uma missão para cumprir, que devemos dar frutos de amor, de justiça, de paz, de misericórdia. Isso tudo se torna verdade quando nossas raízes estão fixadas no amor infinito do Pai.  

Mas como transplantar nossas raízes para esse solo fecundo? O primeiro passo é o querer, é o desejo de estar enraizado em Deus. Depois precisamos nos livrar de todo pecado grave, através do sacramento da Reconciliação. Lutar para permanecer em estado de graça, mas se cair, levantar-se e correr para os braços misericordiosos do Pai que nos espera no confessionário. Fortalecer esse desejo de estar no Pai através da eucaristia, o mais frequente que pudermos. Quanto mais recebermos Jesus que está realmente presente na sagrada Eucaristia, mais nos enraizaremos no amor do Pai. 

E por fim, a oração, o contato direto do nosso coração com o coração do Pai. Rezar é conversar com Deus, da mesma forma que conversamos com quem amamos. Com simplicidade, com intimidade, com reverência e profunda gratidão. Deus está constantemente tentando entrar em contato conosco, através das coisas, da natureza, das pessoas e dos acontecimentos diários de nossa vida. Se pararmos para prestar atenção, é possível perceber esses sinais e responder esse chamado de amor com nossa oração.  

Peçamos ao nosso anjo da guarda, a criatura que mais nos ama nesse mundo, com amor totalmente incondicional que só quer a nossa salvação, que nos ajude a aprofundarmos nossas raízes no amor do Pai, para que cresçamos fortes e produzamos abundantes frutos.
