Today's Gospel: Luke 1:39-56 - Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary A year ago today my children and I consecrated ourselves to Mary. My pledge was a renewal, but it was all new to them. We’d worked our way through 33 days of reflections on Marian consecration geared toward children, and the kids were excited when the day came (in part because there was the promise of Italian ice to celebrate, but still). What a joy this day is for us, but what joy it was even when the blessed event we recall first took place. A new baby is always a gift, but the Son of God? Can you imagine what Elizabeth must have been feeling? This probably wasn’t the first time she’d felt John the Baptist move in her belly, but I’m sure this time was different. To know without a doubt that you are in the presence of the Lord... We can experience that today as well, and it doesn’t have to be a surprise. We can participate in the Mass or spend time in Eucharistic adoration. I know I can take these things for granted. Our church is just up the road; I drive past it multiple times almost every day. Today I can choose to renew that joy, to put myself in Elizabeth’s place and have the True Presence of the Lord be something new, unexpected, unanticipated, and totally overwhelming. I can say with Mary, “My soul magnifies, glorifies, proclaims the greatness the Lord!” Yes, “the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.” God is good, all the time. Praise Him for the gift of Mary, who so beautifully allowed the Spirit to put her unbridled joy into these sweet, moving words. Blessed Mother Mary, pray for us.

Ponder:

When was the last time God took your breath away or moved you beyond words?

Pray:

Dear Jesus, You came into the world in the humble form of a child. Help me to grow in humility and in love of You, through Your Blessed Mother’s intercession.
