Today's Gospel: John 6:35-40

"And this is the will of the One who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what He gave me." John 6:39a

In the true-to-life movie, Breakthrough, fourteen-year-old John Smith falls through the ice on a frozen lake. He's trapped underwater for over fifteen minutes. Although all seems lost, his adopted mother, Joyce, will not accept that her son is gone.

She prays over his non-breathing body with a deep passion and a fierce faith that won't quit, no matter who tries to tell her there's no point. Her love won't allow her to stop. Her love won't allow her to lose what God gave her.

Jesus has that same deep, passionate, and fierce love for us. As the Good Shepherd, He'll go to any extreme to find a lost sheep. His love won't allow Him to stop looking. His love won't allow Him to lose what God gave him.

Jesus and Joyce Smith illustrate what we moms need to do for our children. We can't ever give up on the pursuit of leading them to God, even when their peers, social media, Hollywood, and just about every other platform out there is trying to steal them away and claim their souls.

God gave us our children. His will is for us not to lose them, ever. No matter the situation, be it a loss of faith, drugs, or alcohol, when we pray deeply, passionately, and fiercely, without ceasing, we can bring them back.

If and when we lose hope, we need only look to John Smith who is alive and well, and studying to be a pastor, all because his mom refused to lose what God gave her.

Ponder:

Have any of my children strayed? What can I do to bring them back?

Pray:

Good Shepherd, give me the perseverance I need to never give up on the pursuit of leading my children to You. I pray in Your name. Amen.
