Today's Gospel: Matthew 20:1-16
Today’s Gospel go against our capitalist mindset, our sense of fairness. God, however, is above and beyond political and economic ideologies. We cannot box Him into our ideas of fairness either.
Our duty is to go into His vineyard and do our best to carry out the mission He gave us. And at the end of the day, we are to be grateful for all the blessings He has given us.
Trouble arises when we compare ourselves to others, when we do not rejoice in God’s great mercy, and when we judge.
We do not know what delayed the other workers. Perhaps one had a sick child. Another may have just been fired from his job and came out hoping to find more work so to feed his family. What if one was not feeling well in the morning, but after taking some medicine and sleeping in a bit felt better? We do not always know or understand the circumstances people find themselves in. Only God knows and understands the heart. Aren't we all beneficiaries of His mercy?
Gratitude is a virtue. We must practice this virtue more often. Then we will always be able to recognize and rejoice in the greatness of our God – His great blessings, His great mercy, His great love for us and for all.
Ponder:
What has God given you today for which you are most grateful? Make a list.
Pray:
Heavenly Father, I praise You for all that you have given me. Cultivate in me the spirit of gratitude that I may forever sing Your praise. Amen.
