Today's Gospel: Matthew 15:21-28
In today’s Gospel reading, we read about the Canaanite woman who pleaded with Our Lord to heal her daughter. When approached by the woman, Jesus noted that He had come to tend to the “sheep of the house of Israel” (Matt 15:24). The Canaanite woman, with her undaunted faith, proclaimed that although she was not an Israelite, she still believed that Jesus could heal her daughter. Jesus, impressed by this great faith, granted the woman her prayer. He healed the woman’s daughter by simply making the statement, “Let it be done for you as you wish” (Matt 15:28).
Faith is powerful. The stronger the faith, the more one can endure. Yet, there are times when even those with a strong faith need our Lord’s healing touch. Even the great faith of the Canaanite woman alone could not heal her own daughter. It took Christ’s action to accomplish the healing. For some things, God must address the matter in His time. But, like the Canaanite woman, we can run to the Lord whenever we need Him. He is always with us.
Ponder:
What might be happening in your life, today, that requires the healing touch of Our Lord?
Pray:
Lord Jesus, hear my cries. Heal me and those I love. I ask for this in Your holy name. Amen.
