Today's Gospel: Matthew 11:25-27
In today's Gospel, Jesus calls our minds and hearts to our Father in heaven, reminding us that He has things to lovingly show us, and that He has "revealed them to the childlike." Even as a grown woman with children of my own, I have days in which I desperately seek solace, and though I often turn to my husband or my friends, there are times when only a parent's touch will do. In the end, we know that it is our parents who will love and cherish us above all others with that special bond that one shares with their child. Sometimes our tears need that absolute reassurance, that childlike abandon, that comes when we are with our parents. I have wonderful earthly parents that fill this role, but I also have my heavenly Father, and this is something that I have been relying on more and more of late, especially as my own children grow, and consequently, my worries for them grow, too.
My own son is now fifteen, and there are times that I lie in bed at night, when I cannot sleep, and turn worrying into a cardio workout. These are times, when I cannot just pick up the phone and call my mom or dad, or wish to wake my husband, that I remember to turn to my Father in heaven. Even just a few simple words expressing what is on my heart, and an Our Father prayer, or a decade of the rosary if I can manage it, help to soothe my anxious spirit a bit. Our Father is waiting for us to turn to him, in childlike confidence, if we allow ourselves to rest in Him.
Ponder:
In what ways can I turn my heart to listening for our heavenly Father's voice as I go about my day?
Pray:
Heavenly Father, please hold my hand as I move about my day, in some small way letting me know that I do not need to worry, and can rest in You. Guide my heart in seeking Your Will for my life, always.
