Today's Gospel: Luke 6:36-38

This verse in Luke is one I’ve known my whole life, and the words feel familiar. The command feels so familiar its almost too easy to overlook the true impact of what we are called to do.

While praying with this Scripture in Adoration, I found myself journaling about current trials in my life that require me to exercise mercy. I wrote the words, “How do I show mercy and love in these circumstances?” and then my pen trailed off the page.

I had looked up and there many rows in front of me was someone I was just thinking about as one of my trials. It was like God smacked me on the head in that moment. WOW.

The next thing in my journal was, “Lord, you've got my attention. I’m listening!”

I have no doubt God used that moment, that exact moment to show me where I need to be merciful. I might know the words in this Scripture, but I realized I’m not really living them day to day in all areas of my life. God took that moment to get my attention and remind me in that moment to be merciful, just as He is merciful, in all areas of my life, even in my blind spots.

With His help, I can do better. God’s mercy endures forever, but mine does not … yet. With His help, I am working on it.

Ponder:

Do I have blind spots in my life where I am neglecting to be merciful?

Pray:

Lord, I am listening. Help me recognize areas in my life that I might be merciful, just as you are merciful.

God’s mercy endures forever, but mine does not ... yet. With His help, I am working on it. #dailygospel
