Today's Gospel: Luke 15:1-10

I was recently talking with some friends about the concept that God doesn’t exist like us in only one time and place. It occurred to me that even though He knew that Adam and Eve would choose to disobey Him, He created them anyway. I think this extreme love is being communicated in today’s reading. Jesus uses examples His disciples could relate to, like losing their livestock or precious coins, to illustrate how far the Father will go to bring us back to Him. I know as I’ve gotten older I spend a good part of my day playing “now where did I put my keys" (or phone or wallet...you get the idea). I’m always so relieved when I find the object I’m searching for. For those of us who have lost our child in the store, or some other situation, we can surely appreciate the joy Jesus describes in heaven over the repentance of even one sinner. God truly wishes us to join Him in His heavenly home. Given the generosity of our good Lord, how can I refuse His invitation to repentance and reconciliation? We are created for relationship with God. However, we are given the free will to be in that relationship or not. It is an awesome responsibility. We are also blessed with the grace of the sacraments to strengthen this connection. It seems to me we should be the ones rejoicing!

Ponder:

Am I doing all I can to repent and reconcile with my Lord? If not, what do I need to do?

Pray:

Dear Lord, I am sorry for the times I’ve chosen something other than You as the center of my life. Thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit to empower me to know and do Your will.
