Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.
Today's Gospel: Luke 11:1-4
Imagine spending a whole year traveling with Jesus. Imagine watching Him talk with people, healing their illnesses and suffering spirits, teaching profound lessons full of supernatural wisdom. Then imagine the joy of the quieter evenings alone with Jesus, eating dinner together, laughing while retelling the stories of the week, seeing the human, relaxed side of Him. Then as you get tired and ready to retire for the night you see Jesus walk off alone knowing He is going to pray. Wouldn’t you be dying to know what He prays about? Wondering how does He review His day and prepare for the next with His Father and the Holy Spirit? And thinking, how in the world could I ever pray like Jesus?
That is what the disciples asked Him one day when Jesus returned from praying alone. Jesus understood their curiosity and concern and He wanted to teach them by giving them an example of how He prays. It is a beautiful prayer that we all memorized as children. It becomes a fallback when we don’t know how else to pray, as well as a guide for extemporaneous prayers when we do.
This brief prayer, the Lord’s Prayer, gives us the essentials for what we are to say every day to our loving God:
- Honor and praise
- Surrender to His will
- Petition
- Repentance
- Protection
- Thanksgiving
- Belief, through our “Amen”
Ponder:
How can I use the Our Father to improve my prayer today?
Pray:
Our Father, help me to follow Jesus’ example of praying every day to You in the manner He showed the disciples. Let it teach me how to better give glory for all the blessings You provide. Amen.
