Today's Gospel: Matthew 21:28-32

Whenever Jesus teaches in parables, I find it easy to insert myself in the story. I can’t help but be convicted by today’s story of the Two Sons. I’m in the same shoes as these two brothers. Too often, I give my yes to the Lord, only to turn around and do the opposite. Other times, I am inconvenienced at the outset, only to come around later with a dose of guilt.

I am undeniably a sinner, and weak, when it comes to both obedience and execution. I regret those instances when I have been a hypocrite, maybe even fallen into virtue signaling in social media. However, it is the second son’s behavior that gives me consolation and encourages me as I seek holiness. I didn’t get it early or right away, but I have come around in my spiritual practices and obedience – at least, in my efforts at obedience.

I want to be grouped in with the tax collectors and prostitutes, finally getting the idea of righteousness, albeit late. I hope in the Lord that I, too, have turned away from sin and will be entering the Kingdom of God.

Ponder:

Do you see yourself in this parable? Give your “yes” to the Lord for today. Don’t worry about yesterday, don’t plan for tomorrow.

Pray:

Lord Jesus Christ, forgive me for my sins. Give me the graces of increased faith, hope, and charity that I may one day be united with you in eternal life. Amen.
