Today's Gospel: Mark 6:45-52
Amidst the sea of life, it is quite easy to lose our focus on what in fact steadies us: Jesus, our rock. He even gives us the sacraments, His Church, and the loving community within it to help us on our journey, and sometimes we lose sight of that as well. Faith is what draws us to all of these things, and in our humanness, we can falter, just as the disciples did when they saw Jesus walking on the water. They didn’t trust what their own senses were telling them, assuming it could not be so, turning to the fantastical option of it being a ghost!
In a moment filled with such chaos of weather and emotions, I suppose we can relate a little bit. We can learn though, from our own experiences and from their example. It’s always Jesus, even when we cannot see Him, even when we do not realize it. He is always there, He is in charge, and He gives us the support we need. We just need to be willing to reach out and go to Him. Taking a moment to reflect on this reality, to just close our eyes and breathe for a moment, calling this thought to mind even in the midst of chaos, can help to set our focus back to where it needs to be: on Jesus.
Ponder:
In difficult seasons, in what ways am I taking the time to stop and reflect on how I can better keep my gaze focused on Jesus and His Church?
Pray:
Lord, let my heart and mind settle in You. Help me to steady my breath, to pray with abandon, and to turn to my faith to guide me through the stormy seas of life.
