Today's Gospel: Mark 3:1-6

In today’s Gospel a disfigured man was present in the synagogue when Jesus arrived to preach. I have always wondered if he had been put there by the Pharisees on purpose because we are told,

“They watched him closely to see if he would cure him on the sabbath so that they might accuse him.” (Mark 3: 2)

Jesus did cure him, expressing anger at the heartlessness of the Pharisees who dared not to answer Him when He questioned them as to the lawfulness of doing good on the Sabbath. The Pharisees were not concerned with the question, they only wanted to entrap our Lord.

But the man who was cured? For him, his entire life was changed! I am sure he couldn't have cared less what day of the week it was; he was overjoyed and proceeded to proclaim his good fortune to all.

Coincidences don’t just happen in life. Our lives are in God’s hands from the moment of our birth til we die, and events occur by His Divine plan. But are we like the Pharisees who were looking for something to be upset and complain about, blame, and attack others for? Or, are we overjoyed and filled with thankfulness to God only when good things happen? Can we turn to God when life’s problems overwhelm us and trust all will be okay, that even through the most difficult circumstances God has a plan?

When we look at every life occurrence through eyes of grace, we will begin to catch a glimpse of God’s plan for our lives. Christ cared nothing for the opinion of others. He did what was right even knowing it would be used against Him.

He followed God’s plan. Following His plan is always the right thing to do, regardless of how others may view it.

Ponder:

Do I place a greater emphasis on how others will view my actions and not on what is the right action? Do I spend time in prayer trying to discern God’s plan for my life?

Pray:

Lord give me the grace to always do what is right and good, even when others may not understand.
