Reflect on resisting peer pressure and embracing Jesus' new way, as discussed in Mark 2:18-22. Join us for prayer and family discussions on overcoming societal influences.

Today's Gospel: Mark 2:18-22

Peer pressure doesn't only affect kids and teens. The Pharisees are all about peer pressure, telling Jesus that He and His followers should do the same things they and their followers do.

Here, Jesus reminds them that this is not how it works. He hints at the transformation He is there to bring. Referring to Himself as the bridegroom, He indicates that He is the one John the Baptist has prepared them to meet, the one the Pharisees themselves are awaiting. The time of waiting and preparation, the old way, has come to an end; Jesus indicates that now is the time for rejoicing.

Peer pressure can be dangerous when it leads down the wrong path. The metaphors of the dangers in putting a new patch on an old cloak or new wine into old wineskins reinforce this. Jesus is introducing a new way and calls His followers to resist peer pressure from those who try to convince them to stick to the old ways.

Ponder:

Have you ever given in to peer pressure that led you in the wrong direction?

Pray:

Lord, help me to remember that Your way, Your wisdom, and Your truth will lead me down the best path.

Pray Together:

Talk about examples of peer pressure in movies or books your family has enjoyed. Pray together, asking Jesus' help in resisting peer pressure.
