Today's Gospel: Mark 5:1-20
I shut the door to the mother general’s office and headed to lunch. We had just booked a flight for my return home. With the help of Mother, I had discerned out of the convent. In a few days, I would no longer be Sr. Anne Jochim but Kelly again.
Before every meal in the convent, a few Scripture passages are read. This is what I heard that day at lunch:
“As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed pleaded to remain with him. But he would not permit him but told him instead, ‘Go home to your family and announce to them all that the Lord in his pity has done for you.’” (Mark 5:18-19)
Tears welled in my eyes. God was assuring me that He had other plans for me. He was sending me home to proclaim His goodness and mercy. I would be able to reach people the sisters could not.
The cured man obeyed and went where Jesus was not allowed to go. He helped the people of his town understand the Gospel. Their fear then turned into amazement. Jesus needed the unnamed man to proclaim the Good News in the Decapolis; and he did!
Jesus needs us, too. We are called to go where He is not welcomed, not understood, not loved. Perhaps that is our work, our children’s school, or even the homes of family members and friends. It is in these places that we must make known all the good He has done for us.
Do not be afraid to share the Good News!
Ponder:
To whom is God sending me to share the Good News? Because there is someone out there who needs to hear it.
Pray:
My dearest Jesus, help me not to be afraid to share the Gospel with those who need to hear it. Stir within me an awe and wonder so great that I cannot help but to announce the Good News.
