Today's Gospel: Mark 1:29-39

Jesus entered the home of Simon, where He healed Simon’s mother-in-law. News traveled and people brought their loved ones into His presence. I can only imagine the trust they had in Jesus and the joy they felt as they received His miraculous healings.

On November 30, 2020, knowing that Jesus still lives in this world helped me trust, brought me comfort, and still gives me joy. That Sunday, a forty-mile-per-hour wind battered the wind turbine that powered our farm. The brakes which tempered the speed of the blades failed, causing them to whirl like a child’s pinwheel. The turbine tower rocked back and forth, unstable, and out of control. Helpless to stop it, we watched as flames and smoke billowed from the turbine. Fearful it would rotate until it flew apart, we evacuated our farmhouse, taking refuge a safe distance away. My husband called 9-1-1 as he drove his pickup and I left in our car.

As I watched and waited for the tower and turbine to fly apart, I focused my eyes above the blades and whispered, “I know You are here,” the only prayer I could muster.

My daughter called for our daily chat. After I explained the situation, we hung up, and each sent a text to our prayer-warrior friends. “Prayers needed. The wind turbine is on fire and spinning out of control.”

Twenty minutes later, the turbine turned out of the wind and then stopped. No electricity. No power. No motor. Only God and His answer to the prayers raised by the faith-filled friends of ours, their voices united from their homes, “Stop the blades.”

Jesus performed miracles in Simon’s home two thousand years ago; we had one that day. Trust, comfort, and joy mingled. Emmanuel, God with us.

Ponder:

Whom do I call upon when I need prayerful support, and do I trust Jesus to answer me?

Pray:

Thank You for the miracles You give to us, Lord Jesus. Your presence in my life brings me comfort, hope, and joy as I trust in You.
