Today's Gospel: Mark 6:53-56

I cannot help but be impressed by the faith of the people in this Gospel. They had heard of Jesus and the miracles He could perform and they firmly believed that if they could simply bring their sick relatives and friends to Jesus, they would be healed. They didn’t even think they needed to speak to Jesus. Instead, they begged that “they might touch only the tassel on his cloak.” (Mark 6:56) Their faith was rewarded for, as that same verse states, “as many as touched it were healed.”

This is one of several Scripture passages that speak of the importance of faith. It invites us to take an honest look at our own faith. Do we truly believe that Jesus hears our prayers? Do we have faith that He can heal us and those we love? Do we trust that God wants what is best for us?

As much as I wish I had more faith, I struggle to say “yes” to those questions. However, faith is a lifelong journey, and I am committed to keep praying and striving to believe, even when it is hard. I know that God often answers prayers in ways we can’t see or understand and that healing doesn’t always come in the way we expect. Therefore, even if I don’t see the results of my prayers, even if the healing isn’t as dramatic as it is in this Gospel, it doesn’t mean my prayers weren’t answered. I also know that everyone I care about, including my children, needs healing in some way. So, I continue to pray for their healing while asking God to increase my faith to help me truly trust that He will answer that prayer. Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.

Ponder:

Who would you bring to Jesus for healing if you were in today’s Gospel? Say a prayer for them today, asking God to heal them in all ways.

Pray:

Heavenly Father, I want to always believe and trust in You in all ways. Please increase my faith.
