Today's Gospel: Mark 6:7-13
It was the ultimate leap of faith. There I was with a U-Haul trailer attached to the back of my car, driving alone to a new state, not knowing precisely what would await me. Still, through prayer, I felt as if God had given me my marching orders. Even when my trailer experienced a flat tire and I was stranded on the side of the highway, I felt a surprising sense of comfort, believing that I was resting in the center of God’s will.
Perhaps you have undertaken a similar trip at some point in your life. You weren’t quite sure what would await you at your destination, but you had an overwhelming sense that you were headed in the right direction. Just like the Twelve referred to in the Gospel, you were commissioned for the journey by the Lord Himself.
When we receive the Lord’s call, we might find our knees buckling a bit and our heart beating faster than usual. It is okay to have some apprehension when God calls us to something big. It is at those times that we need to trust Jesus and His provisions, just as the Twelve did. At times, as we live out our vocations, we may face some resistance. In those instances, we do as the Lord commands: shake the dust from our feet and travel on.
Miracles await us when we are willing to say yes to the Lord. Granted, we may not be able to drive out demons and cure the sick, but we may just be a tool in God’s hand to accomplish some incredible feats. Many years after my voyage with the U-Haul, I can safely say that I have been able to achieve more than I dreamed possible with the Lord’s help.
Ponder:
When have you had to rely on faith in order to accomplish what you felt God was calling you to do?
Pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, inspire me with Your wisdom, that I might follow the path that leads to miracles. Help me to trust You always!
