Today's Gospel: Luke 16:19-31

Have you ever felt you’d done your best, tried to live out your faith in an often corrupt environment? Have you been mercilessly ridiculed all along the way for being a Catholic? Or has it been a rough road trying to get by, dealing with family difficulties, trying to manage personal health issues while in pain, and suffering at every turn? Yeah, at times life is very, very hard.

As we struggle we hold fast to our Lord, begging Him in every way we know to help us get through the malady. The persecution may not end, the suffering continues, and yet still we pray -- a beggar before our God.

Here we are like Lazarus, covered in the wounds of our earthly life and, like him, assured of eternal gain by our faith. No matter how great our poverty, the Lord will welcome us home.

Ponder:

What are the challenges you are facing this week? Can you write out your pleadings to Our Lord, verbalize them to yourself, and hear in your heart what your spirit begs for?

Pray:

Heavenly Father, hear my cry of the poor and give me the strength and wisdom to continue in the name of Your Son, Jesus, to hold fast to Your love.
