Today's Gospel: Matthew 5:17-19

Today's brief Gospel speaks to the importance of Scripture as the Word of God.

Jesus tells us that He did not come to change anything or to establish any new laws, but to fulfill what had been prophesied. In doing so, He shows respect for the Law.

Jesus was constantly under scrutiny. His teachings, His actions, and especially His miracles were cause for analysis by the Pharisees and the Sadducees. Each instance was an opportunity to find fault or law-breaking on the part of Jesus, when in fact, He was fulfilling all that had been laid out in the prophecies.

Scripture, tradition, and Church teaching always point to the Truth. Our modern attraction to finding the easy way or new ways that are more appealing is not new at all. Jesus's words are enduring and as relevant today as they were in the time of the disciples.

Ponder:

In a world that is increasingly secular and morally ambiguous, we have a treasure in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. How can you use this tool for your spiritual growth and understanding of the Faith?

Pray:

Jesus, teach me what it means to follow Your commandments.
