Today's Gospel: Luke 18:9-14
Saint Teresa of Calcutta once said, “If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” No truer words were ever spoken! This Gospel pointed its finger right at me, unfortunately. Every Sunday, I sit in the pew and judge the congregation. Someone is wearing shorts. Why did they let their child show up in that? Look at that person, using their phone during the homily! I could go on, but I shouldn’t. I mean, what am I doing right now? Listening to the Word? No. Offering up my Mass for someone? No. I am like the Pharisee, judging the poor tax collector!
Writing this reflection has called me to a deeper place in my heart, a deeper place in which my Lord dwells and where I find the love He has for me and for others around me. As a mom of three sitting in the pew with my family, I have found that both my daughters’ hair was not combed, that I did not bring the collection offering, or that my son’s shirt was dirty. We got there, which was what mattered the most ,and hopefully someone was not looking at my family with judging eyes.
It all boils down to this: Each day we wake up to start again. How are we preparing ourselves to face this new opportunity? We each have our faults and weaknesses, but we can ask the Holy Spirit and our guardian angel to guide us in everything we do, so that we can be humble and loving.
Ponder:
How do you prepare yourself to begin each day? In prayer or reading Scripture? Do you feel a difference when you start your day this way?
Pray:
Dear guardian angel, you were given to me to help me throughout my days. Please be there when I need your guidance and help me make holy choices.
