Reflection on Holy Saturday's quiet waiting, inspired by Mary’s unwavering faith. Discover how to trust God's hidden work in our lives.
Today's Gospel: Matthew 28:1-10
Holy Saturday is the quietest day of the Church year. The tabernacles are empty, the churches are still, and the faithful wait with longing hearts. It’s a sacred pause between the sorrow of Good Friday and the joy of Easter. In this pause, we find Mary, our Blessed Mother, who shows us how to wait in faith.
Mary held onto hope even when all seemed lost. Her Son had been crucified, laid in a tomb, and yet she believed. She didn’t run or despair, she remained. Her heart was broken, but her faith was unshaken. She waited not with answers, but with trust.
As parents and caregivers, we often find ourselves in seasons of waiting: for healing, for peace in our families, for answers to prayer. Holy Saturday reminds us that even when it feels like God is silent, He is still at work. Like the hidden dawn of the Resurrection, grace often begins in the darkness.
Today, we are invited to be like Mary, prayerful, still, and faithful. We may not always understand God's timing, but we can rest in the knowledge that His love is never absent. Holy Saturday calls us to deepen our interior life and to remember that silence does not mean abandonment.
So let us sit with Mary. Let us wait in quiet confidence, knowing that joy is coming. Let us prepare our hearts, like a quiet tomb ready to burst forth with new life.
Ponder:
How can we be more like Mary in times when we are waiting or don’t understand what God is doing?
Pray:
Mary, teach us to wait with peace in our hearts. Help us to trust that God is always working, even when we cannot see it.
Pray Together:
Take a moment of quiet today as a family to pray with Mary. Ask her to help you trust God’s plan, even when it’s hard to see.
