Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: John 13:1-15

Up until the very last moments of His life, Jesus is never where we expect Him to be. He has spent His life eating with the wrong people, mingling in the wrong crowds, showing up on Sabbaths, and spending His time with outcasts. And now, to shock us even more, here is Jesus, on the dirty ground, on His knees, as a servant ready to wash the feet of His followers.

At first, the disciples will have none of this: “You will never wash my feet,” exclaims Peter. How often is this also our reaction to Jesus? Lord, I welcome you into my life, but please don’t touch my dirt! We are too embarrassed to show our messiness to the Lord. When we react in this way, we mirror Adam and Eve in the garden, hiding from the Lord in their shame.

The Lord asks for our messiness, not our ability to present a clean image:

“Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me.”

Until we have the courage to come before the Lord, vulnerable and dirty, we can never become transformed. We must follow Peter’s lead and be willing to place everything before our Lord, the good and the messy, allowing it all to be touched and cleaned by His healing power.

Ponder:

What aspect of my life must I reveal and allow for the Lord to wash this Holy Thursday?

Pray:

Lord, we thank You for Your willingness to serve us, even to the depths of our sin and disorder. Grant us the strength to allow You into the hidden places of our lives, surrendering everything to Your hands to be made clean.
