Reflect on the joy of the Resurrection and keeping that joy alive in daily life through faith and perspective in today's Gospel reflection.

Today's Gospel: Matthew 28:8-15

The two Marys must have been over the moon with the news that Jesus had risen. Imagine how excited they were to see Him on the road. I don’t think I’d be able to contain myself. What could stop their joy at this point? The Lord had defeated death itself! They did as instructed and told the disciples.

Meanwhile, the guards must have been fearful for failing at what they probably thought was an easy job. When I think of the reaction from the chief priests, I see that people haven’t changed. There will always be deception, people who look out for their own interests, greed, and lies. The world is still the world.

The disciples—once they heard the news and saw Jesus—were also filled with hope and joy. The joy of the apostles was so great that each was willing to die professing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Nothing could quench the fire of their joy.

We know the story and yet sometimes it’s hard to let that joy live in us. We go about our day stressing over things from small to large. The lies of the enemy can dampen our spirits. The Good News can seem like a distant light. Are we looking at things right?

Jesus Christ has defeated death itself. What have we to fear? How can we rekindle that exuberance in our lives? How can we keep Him at the forefront of our minds, especially in difficult situations?

Jesus is the light, love, and life we need. Let’s keep the joy of the season burning in our hearts.

Ponder:

Am I letting the lies of the enemy cause me to forget the joy of the Resurrection?

Pray:

Lord, help me to face my challenges from the perspective of the Resurrection so I can go about my life with joy for You.

Pray Together:

Talk about those You know who have a hard time being joyful (like those going through a difficult time). Think of ways you can help (for example, cooking a meal or helping with yard work.)
