Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: John 20:19-31

I don’t know anyone who hasn’t doubted their faith at one time. Big doubts, small doubts - they happen. Our creator made us intellectual beings. He wants us to think. The danger is when we think our way is best, that we know the best answers, that we can out-think God.

Of all the Apostles, I relate to Thomas the doubter the most. He questions Jesus throughout their time together. He wants to understand on a human level when Jesus continually reminds him that what He, the Christ, brings to the world is beyond our brain’s grasp.

In this passage, Thomas demands proof when he is face-to-face with the resurrected Christ. And Jesus lets Thomas put his fingers in His wounds. He doesn’t shame Thomas in that moment; He doesn’t scold him. Jesus meets Thomas in that moment and gives him what he needs - physical proof.

We do not live with Jesus in His physical form. We can’t touch His sides or see the wounds on His hands and feet. We believe that He was sent by God, was crucified for our sins, and rose again after three days.

We say amen approximately ten times at weekly Mass. We say it when we pray, when we hear the Word of God, and when we receive the most precious body and blood of our Lord in the Eucharist. Every week, we reaffirm our trust in Him: Amen, I believe.

Ponder:

How can we renew our trust in Jesus and His promises in our daily lives?

Pray:

O blood and water, which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You!
