Reflect on recognizing Jesus's presence in daily life, especially during Easter, with insights from Luke 24:13-35 and practical tips from Alex Resch.

Today's Gospel: Luke 24:13-35

Alleluia, He is risen! Happy Easter! In this Gospel passage, two followers of Jesus are walking on the road to Emmaus, and they get a wonderful surprise. The Risen Lord joins them on their walk! But, they didn’t even realize it was Him! I could easily and pridefully scoff at these two spiritually blind individuals, except I need to be honest and admit that, sometimes, I don’t see Jesus standing right in front of me either, and my eyes are “ . . . prevented from recognizing Him.”

Today, in the midst of this joyful Easter Octave, I resolve to notice Jesus in as many places as possible. I want to see Him in the eyes of my beautiful children. I want to hear His presence in the loving words of my husband. I want to feel His presence beside me baking Easter goodies and washing the dirty pots and pans afterwards. I want to be fully aware of His presence when I receive Him in the Eucharist, and I never want to let go of His peace. I want to remember the last line of this passage every time I assist at Mass:
“Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.” Luke 24:35

Ponder:

How can we be more aware of Jesus’s presence in the ordinary tasks and moments of our daily lives?

Pray:

Jesus, we are so filled with joy celebrating Your Resurrection this Easter season! Please help us to always be aware of Your presence and peace in all that we do.

Pray Together:

This week, play a game of “I Spy” as a family, but try to spy Jesus working in your lives. Share these moments with each other when they occur.
