Today's Gospel: John 11:45-56
This passage signals the beginning of the process that will lead to Jesus's death. Jesus had just resurrected Lazarus, and the Pharisees were worried that with so many conversions, Jesus would have many followers and could cause trouble for Rome.
It's interesting that they did not questions the miracles. They saw them too. They were not interested in the truth; they were worried about their social status and possessions. Even seeing that Jesus could restore life to a dead body, a very clear sign that He was the Son of God, the Messiah, their hearts were so tied to this world that they couldn't see. Because once they saw, they would have to change their lives. And that was too painful for them.
Maybe we also are blind to situations that God wants us to see, for our own good and for the good of the people who love us. Maybe we need to cut the strings that are imprisoning us to earthly things and are preventing us from lifting our hearts to Heaven, where we belong.
It's also interesting that God used one of them, the high priest of that year, Caiaphas, to prophesy that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not only for the nation, but also to gather into one the dispersed children of God.
We can learn from this that God can use anyone and anything to be a prophet for us, even our small children, to show us what He wants us to do. We just have to keep our hearts and our minds open.
Ponder:
What strings do I need to cut to be free to lift my heart to God? How can I be more aware of the signs that God sends to show me His will?
Pray:
Dear guardian angel, help me see the signs of divine providence in my life and free my heart from everything that distracts me from the mission I must fulfill, so one day I can be in Heaven.
