Today's Gospel: Luke 24:1-12

Throughout history, God has chosen women to do great things in His name. Esther’s courage saved the Chosen people from slaughter. In her humility, the Blessed Virgin received the grace of the Incarnation. He chose another woman, Mary Magdalene, to be the first to know of the Resurrection—to see the empty tomb with her own eyes and hear the message of the angel, “He is not here, he has been raised.” Devotion to Jesus, even when all seemed lost, brought Mary Magdalene with Joanna and Mary, the mother of James, to the tomb at daybreak.

God chooses women to be witnesses of His truth in a unique and intimate way. The women were carrying out the normal duty of bringing spices to anoint the dead. In being faithful to their womanly task, God found them worthy to first witness and proclaim the Good News.

But sometimes our faith wavers and we feel too weak or lack confidence to share the hope of the Resurrection, especially in a world that resists this hope. Yes, we are weak. But in God we are courageous, humble, and faithful. He strengthens us, like the women at the tomb, to do great things in His name by simply carrying out our normal duties. We, too, are sinners like the Magdalene, whom God chose as “the apostle to the Apostles.” And we, too, are called to proclaim Christ Resurrected by living out the supernatural hope of Easter morning in our day-to-day lives.

Ponder:

How has God chosen me to be a witness of hope today?

Pray:

Thank you, Lord, for the prophetic gift that is the feminine genius. Let me bring the hope and glory of Your Resurrection to all I meet today.
