Reflect on the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000 and learn the importance of offering what you have to Christ, trusting Him to accomplish the impossible.

Today's Gospel: John 6:1-15

The story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 is one of the most popular and widely known stories about Him. Even non-Christians know this as one of His big miracles. We often get so caught up in the truly spectacular miracle that we forget the lessons leading up to it. In particular, Jesus sees the crowd and asks Saint Philip how much it would cost to feed them all. Saint Philip, being a practical man, incredulously responds, “’Two hundred days' wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little.’”

Saint Andrew then gives a little hope. He tells Jesus that a young boy brought some small number of fish and bread. Despite the fact that he, too, seems dismayed at the thought of feeding so many people with such little food, Saint Andrew is our model. Jesus took what was available and did the impossible. This shows us that all we have to do is approach Jesus, show Him what it is that we have, and trust Him to carry us forward. Jesus will always help us to the finish line if we approach and ask.

Ponder:

Where in your life do you need to learn to approach Jesus and offer Him what you have?

Pray:

Lord Jesus, I give You all that I have. Let Your Will and Your work be done through me.

Pray Together:

As a family, think of something in your community or your family that needs attention. Pray a decade of the Rosary (or another small devotional), and offer Jesus your own time and talent to help resolve it.
