Today's Gospel: Luke 24:35-48
Christ is truly risen! If the Apostles didn’t buy it at first, they certainly did after today’s Gospel! Christ knows our minds intimately. He knows about all our simple human fears, doubts, questions, and anxieties. How we often explain away something good by trying to be too logical, or by thinking too much of the supernatural. In this excerpt from the Gospel of Luke, He dispels any doubts the Apostles might have about His resurrection by proving definitively that He is not a ghost or a figment of their imagination. He does this by showing them His physical form, the wounds that caused Him to suffer so greatly. Then, to really seal the deal, He casually asks them for something to eat.
Christ does all this so that the Apostles might truly understand. As I said before, Jesus understands us, which is why He knows how to talk to us. He makes Himself present for us in all sorts of simple ways that we can understand. Whether it be through the Scriptures, through the actions of loved ones or even strangers, and especially at Mass in the real presence of the Eucharist. Christ loves us and wants us to understand that He is present and truly alive, just as He did with the Apostles.
Ponder:
Where in your life do you see Christ speaking to you simply?
Pray:
Lord Jesus, You are always seeking to enter into my life. Help me to recognize Your voice and to love You all the more.
