Today's Gospel: John 18:1-19:42
Today is Good Friday. It is said to be the holiest day in the liturgical calendar. This is the day our redemption came to be. Jesus suffered horrifically at the hands of His enemies for our sake so that we can one day be reunited with Him and His Father in heaven. In reading the account in today’s Gospel of all that Jesus accepted, including ridicule, agony, and immense physical pain, it is hard to fathom what that must have been like for Him. Today, on this day, we offer our prayers, fasting, and deep reflection for His sake and for the sake of the world.
In pondering Jesus' love for us, this question may come to mind: “What else can I do to offer myself more deeply to him?” Jesus gave Himself fully, not just for the world as a whole, but also to each and every person. He had all of us in mind and heart. His love is the greatest love we will ever encounter.
In your own reflection, perhaps today is the day to forgive a person in your life that you have been unable to in the past. Or maybe there is something special that you can do for a loved one who is in dire need. The list goes on.
In your prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, place yourself before the Lord and ask these tough questions. In taking steps to follow His will, your prayerful actions could help to bring needed healing to the world one person at a time. Most importantly, use this day to grow deeper in your love of Jesus, the Savior of the world.
Ponder:
Lord, is there someone I need to forgive on this day? Help me to live my life in imitation of You.
Pray:
Jesus, I love You with all my heart. Thank You for dying for me, and thank You for the gift of eternal life.
