Reflect on Jesus as the Good Shepherd, His guidance in our lives, and the protection offered through the Eucharist in this heartfelt reflection.

Today's Gospel: John 10:11-18

Jesus as the Good Shepherd is such a comfort to me. He gives me faith that when I hear His voice, I will listen and follow. I will know I can trust His guidance. I will instinctively go the way He is leading, knowing He will not lead me into danger but instead into places that will nourish me, quench my thirst, and keep His life within me safe.

Jesus gives me faith that no matter what comes, He will not abandon me. If danger approaches, He will stand between me and the evil one. His sacrifice on the cross is my protection when the "wolf" comes looking to steal my life.

I am sometimes oblivious to the temptations of the devil, too comfortable in my own routine. However, Jesus knows that I am susceptible to temptation and because of this, makes Himself present to me every Sunday. He does this to protect the vulnerable parts of me.

He lays down His life for us in the Eucharist, helping protect us from the “wolves” satan wishes to leave us prey to. The Good Shepherd, on the altar, shows us He is still present on earth, calling us, leading us, never abandoning us.

He is there, not only for us, but also for those who don’t know Him yet, who have wandered away from the flock or who were not born into the flock. We must remember to show these sheep not yet in the fold what it is like to have a Good Shepherd you can entrust your life to.

Ponder:

How can seeing Jesus as the Good Shepherd in the Eucharist at Mass deepen my appreciation of the power of His presence in the Eucharist?

Pray:

Lord, thank You for being so good to me. Help me to know Your voice and follow You wherever You lead, trusting no one else with my life but You.

Pray Together:

Discuss with your family some things Jesus the Good Shepherd says to us as He is leading us through life. How are these words nourishing, quenching your thirst or protecting His life within you?
