Today's Gospel: John 14:6-14

In this Gospel passage, we are reminded that through the death of Jesus, if we truly believe that He died for us, we are saved. 1 Corinthians says, “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures; he was buried; he was raised on the third day…Hold fast to the word of the Bible and we will be saved."

As I get older, I think about what that truly means. I am to the age, roughly, that Jesus was when he died for all of us, and no matter how hard I try to wrap my mind around that thought, it still overwhelms me. A young adult, with the most significant purpose in life, died for all of us so that we, too, could experience eternal life. I envision Him saying to me, “those days weren’t for me, they’re for you.”

When I think about what that may look like for someone in 2022, I envision a mom breastfeeding her child; a single parent working multiple jobs to support themselves and their kids; a dying person’s last days fulfilling the wishes of others by taking pictures and telling stories. Those days are not for them, they are for the people they love. On a much more monumental scale, Jesus died on the cross for us. His known purpose to Himself, but a prophecy for everyone else. His days were not for Him, they were for us.

It is now up to us to honor Him and those days. To remember the sacrifice that He suffered for us. To believe with our whole heart, our whole mind, our whole strength, and soul. And it is now up to us to be His disciples and to spread His word. We must intentionally put Him at the heart of our day, to let Him be the driver of our decisions. For without Him, we are nothing.

Ponder:

How often do you think about the sacrifice that Jesus made for us to have eternal life? What are some ways you can remind yourself every day?

Pray:

Jesus, thank You for giving the ultimate sacrifice for us. For through Your dying and resurrection, and our baptism, we have been saved and are promised eternal life. In Your Glory, we give You thanks and praise.
