Today's Gospel: John 12:44-50

The themes of light and darkness, sight and blindness, action and inaction, occur many times in the gospel of John. Those who accept the light--Jesus, are able to 'see' clearly and understand. Without light, in total darkness, we are blind, often disabled. In emphasizing these opposites, we are given a choice. Where do I experience light in my life? Where do I allow darkness to cloud my thoughts and actions?

Jesus’ presence is a call to action. We must seek the light and bear the light to others. This requires action. Light gives us power. Light changes our lives. We must allow ourselves to be bathed in light. Light allows growth.

Jesus, our light, became man, that we might become like Him. His light shines through all creation. Light generates life. Light embodies compassion and justice. Light cares for humanity. Light delivers mercy without judgment. We must bear light if we want the Light to overcome darkness.

Ponder:

How do I consciously build habits, and thus actions, that bear light to fight the darkness?

Pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, please allow me the grace to be a light-bearer to the world, that I might share You through my daily actions.
